Experts

The term ‘expert’ enjoys no legal protection in Germany, and only a small amount of protection outside of Germany. This results in assessors, who are not sufficiently qualified call themselves experts, being active in the market. There are a number of approaches to distinguish real experts from unskilled providers.

... are provided by German legislation. These procedures certify that an expert is particularly qualified in a certain subject area. Publicly certified experts are sworn in to act independently and impartially. Public appointment and swearing in exists in Germany whilst it is little known abroad.

CERTIFICATION OF PERSONS ACCORDING TO EN ISO/IEC 17024:2012 ...

... regulates the verification of educational standards internationally. The verification of certification of persons according to EN ISO/IEC 17024: 2012 by a recognised and accredited body is recognised worldwide and is considered proof of expertise in a particular area. Certification of persons will be implemented in Germany in the medium to long term.
